Lot 1032 Fancy Blacksmith Candlestick - , - - Mining Hard goods/Important Mining Publications
This is a very rare fuse cutter model! Might be only one out of a few to exist. Measures 8” and is made out of one piece steel, plus a fuse cutter bar. Stamping has the name C. CLEAVES on the thimble, along with other decorative engravings. There are two grooves on the handle, one for a fuse cutter and the other for crimping blasting caps. According to Wilson and Bobrink “Nothing is known of the maker, C. Cleaves, but his name appears on three other different models of candlesticks."
